Wow. Such a fun premise and fast-paced story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this over two days. Dysfunctional characters, with Satan's assistance, lead the charge to defeat God. God, or what it is being called, lives in an alternate dimension and feeds off the souls of the deceased. For those that go into the light, heed Admiral Ackbar's most famous quote, "It's a trap!"Cipher, Han, and Father Hurley have lived with the knowledge of the truth, which haunts them in more ways than expected. Those that see ghosts and demons, yet are cast aside as crazy....well, they just relearned how to see true reality. The God Killers eBook David Simpson Reviews
This is a book about a God that is not at all what we think of him... The new concept of God introduced is quite an interesting one. This is not a religious book at all by the way, even if God is involved. It's a really good book for those who like ghost stories with a little bit of paranormal, but not too much super power and stuff. I enjoyed it a lot and it was very hard for me to stop reading when I needed to.
Only three things bugged me (SPOILERS here) first, I did not like how technology was the solution to a ''supernatural'' problem. It didn't feel right. Secondly, and this is not a very important thing, I don't get why Nathalie's child aged (from not even born to 6 years old) while every other ghosts and spirits didn't... Also, this is the third book I've read from this author and I don't like how no character ever truly dies. Honestly, I wasn't even sad when one of them died because I knew he would come back in some way...
Overall, I did like the book and I do think that it deserves 5 stars. I would recommend it to anyone.
I downloaded this from as soon as I finished "Post-Human Trilogy". Wanting more David Simpson work, I was not disappointed. The Post Human Trilogy was a very different type of science fiction, and "The God Killers" again are another different type of science fiction. The title says it all, or does it?
It is pretty hard to describe what actually happens without giving away any of the twist and turns this novel takes. So I won't. I just can highly recommend this as well as "Post-Human Trilogy".
David Simpson has the skills that can put him up with Heinlein and Clarke in the future. Here's looking forward to a long and full career.
Well this was certainly a different take on who God really is. I thought it was kind of interesting actually. I won't give away any spoilers, but I will give a synopsis of what the story is about. God is actually an "alien" from a different dimension and he eats the souls of the dead to live. Cipher, Han and Father Hurly know this is the case because they've all died and came back to life so they have seen the real "God" and know what he really is. With the help of "Satan" they try to kill this fake "God" so the souls of the dead can be free. It's a quick read.
I'm noticing some people commenting that this book is too far-fetched, but I honestly think that's OK & completely expected within the Sci Fi genre (& any work of fiction, for that matter). I really had trouble putting this book down. Mr. Simpson is quite a polished writer and I found the storyline intriguing and unique. I really had fun reading it, as I have with all of his novels. If you are looking for a unique (but not weird) and entertaining Sci Fi read, then I highly recommend this. I would also suggest checking out the Post-Human series if you already haven't!
I was repulsed and fascinated. God is an evil, soul consuming alien and the devil is a beautiful woman in a red dress, aiding and abetting. (Go figure). Still, it borders on blasphemy, in my option, and shouldn't be read by those easily offended over a different view to our religious doctrines.
I really liked the premise of the book. So it read a little far-fetched at times like the part about the aircraft carrier heist, but overall, I really liked the idea of killing god. I think if you look at it philosophically that we tend to do this when things go wrong. I don't review books on grammatical errors as tiny as a typo so those things are minimals and petty complaints about it are a waste of time, but the story is good. If you can follow it without bringing in silly complaints, then you'll enjoy the book.
(Sorry I do not do spoilers.)
I'm sad that I came to the end. Why isn't this a series?! The world that was set up in this book is still so full of potential. The characters still have so much story left to share! I need more Satan!
Fast paced action from the first page blew me away. I loved that the characters were all misfits. Every one of them touched by a traumatic experience that changed not only them, or their faith, but how they see how they see the world, God, lost loved ones and humanity. I even loved the absurdity of the ship. It's fiction people relax. The author never claimed to be a Navy expert.
